The origin of the Casa La Colina is an antique water cistern belonging to a magnificent Finca in the north of Lanzarote. Using a sensitive approach regarding architecture and materials used in the buildings of the region, a modern holiday house which combines both top comfort and traditional charm has resulted. The massive beams and rafters of old timber form an interesting contrast to the natural stone walls that are left unplastered.

The sheltered terrace, with sun-beds and seating, offers room enough for both relaxation in the sun or the shade. The exterior of the house has been kept both formal and simple, the materials used correspond in shape and colour with the surrounding landscape.

The generously sized swimming-pool is for the use of all the guests of the Finca and if necessary is heated in the winter. A salt-water plant avoids the use of chemical additives adds to a real spa experience.

Always present, the cone of the volcano La Corona dominates the bizarre landscape of the north. Mountain bikes are available for tours into the surrounding countryside. The Casa La Colina is an excellent basis for walks and excursions to the near beach Playa del Risco – one of the last unspoilt beaches on the island.

The natural stone walls of the antique cistern have been left partly unplastered. The colours and structure of this ‘mosaic’ act as an extremely decorative background to the tasteful furnishings.

The unusual bedroom in the old cistern offers with its high ceiling of natural hewn stone, not only a dream ambience but optimal climate conditions on the hottest of summer days.
