This stylishly restored 18th manor house on Lanzarote now houses a hotel. The complex is classically arranged around an interior courtyard with the manor house on an elevated position (above) with a view into the lush garden.

The hotel was restored with great care and in keeping with traditional building skills.
Left: Typical for Lanzarote is the plain facade with canary style windows that are glazed only in the upper part, the lower having wooden shutters.

Inside the homes on Lanzarote life is hidden to view behind closed doors and windows, the heart of the house being the patio onto which all rooms and corridors open. This always was and still is the traditional meeting place for all household members and is sheltered from the wind and the sun.

The antique ‘Aljibe’ is at the centre of the patio and was the water cistern for the manor. In winter the water was collected from all the roofs and had to last over the dry summer months.

In front of the hotel is a spacious terrace with large palms and lovely sunny and shady spots. Behind the house is a flowering garden inviting the guest to walk and enjoy the tropical fauna. Here are also numerous seats to be found.

The furnishings of the Hotel Caserio de Mozaga are a carefully chosen mixture of antiques and country accessories that are typical for the region, all harmonising beautifully in the elegant refurbished rooms.
|
The excellent restaurant offers not only a charming ambience, with a beamed ceiling and terracotta tiling, but also culinary specialities of the region and primarily from Lanzarote itself. Only the best and freshest products are accepted and many, such as jams and preserves, pasta and liqueurs, are made on the premises and add a special note to the Canary and Mediterranean menu.
Decorative accessories such as the 19th century Spanish tapestry or the photographs from the family archives on display give the room a personal touch.

To accompany the excellent food there are the appropriate wines on offer. Among French, Italian and Spanish are the wonderful tangy wines of Lanzarote.

Right: The shimmering wooden floor in the light flooded salon and the crystal chandelier gently tinkling in the breeze, are watched over by the Art Nouveau angel. The carefully selected and arranged antiques suitably decorate the large plain rooms of the old manor.
