The holiday house Casa Cueva Grande thrones above a valley of the same name and offers views of fantastic rock formations, the flowering garden and the wide expanse of the Atlantic. The rooms have been built into and onto the rock. Through the use of natural stone and a sensitive approach with regard to the existing structures a perfect combination of living and nature has been created.

The living-room extension, with walls of natural stone, blends harmoniously into the overall design. Because of the stone walls and the shade spending acacia it is possible to enjoy a pleasant climate even on the hottest of summer days.

The tradition of using the volcanic caves for living quarters goes back to the time of the original inhabitants of the Canary Islands, the Guanchen or Oldcanary people, who discovered the climatic advantages. It has been shown that even at times when houses were being built of stone, personages of high standing continued to live in the caves.

César Manrique, who was the inspiration for the development of the Valle de los Cueves, was responsible during the 20th Century, for making it fashionable to use the volcanic caves on Lanzarote. An example is the Jameos de Agua, an underground lagoon, which he turned into a cultural centre with an auditorium, restaurant and discotheque.

The open fireplace in the living-room is hidden behind a cast-iron oven screen and together with the comfortable seating makes for a cosy atmosphere.
The cosy dining-room has a beamed ceiling and a generous dining-table which can seat six persons. Through the large window one has a view of the valley and the Atlantic.
