Since it was founded in 1989, the hotel Hacienda San Jorge on La Palma has gained a number of awards, the latest being the title the "Biosphere Hotel"due to the good results through the care taken in handling nature and natural resources.
|

The concept is that of an apartment complex built as a small village and grouped around an enchanting, tropical garden and using stylistic devices familiar to the Canaries. Large glass doors open onto balconies and terraces of which the wooden frames, railings and the carefully copied antique columns, glow in warm, vibrant colours.

By using different heights and colours for the various houses of the hotel, the impression is of a village that has grown naturally.

The warm tone of the terracotta tiling on the traditional Canary roofs, harmonises perfectly with the bright, almost Caribbean colours of the house fronts or just the plain white of the typical country house of La Palma.

The large generous pool, laid out with stones and palms as an artificial lagoon, forms the heart of the garden.
|
The pool makes for a wonderful bathing experience as it uses a salt water plant and thus needs no chemical additives.

Apart from the hotel complex, with its excellent and successful architecture, it is the garden which adds to the enchantment of the Hacienda San Jorge. The many mature trees, ficus plants, palms and ìdragon treesî belonging to the original manor have been carefully preserved and supplemented by tropical and endemic plants, the result is a very special and natural garden.

There is plenty of space around the pool for both sunhungry and shadeseeking guests.

Through the stone doorway with its attractive wooden gate one reaches the beach opposite, one of the finest on La Palma.
|
|
|
A wonderful addition to the attractions of the hotel is the beach of Los Cancajos, protected by rocks on two sides. It has wonderful fine black sand and top grade water (blue flag).
|
|
|
In the restaurant, with its panoramic view of the Atlantic, a warm and cold breakfast buffet is provided. Four evenings a week the guest can dine a-la-carte and the remaining evenings there is a buffet. One evening a week the buffet is comprised of Canary specialities with special attention given to regional dishes. In addition special menus for children as well as vegetarian meals are offered.
Together with the restaurant of the Hacienda San Jorge, the guest can enjoy the combination of individual comfort of an apartment with the service of a hotel.

The pool-bar (right) is to be found in the garden on a rise with a view across the pool area. Here small snacks are on offer together with the typical Tapas.
|

Adjoining the large lobby, where there is the reception and seating groups, information stand and separate small market-shop, we find the café. In this glass conservatory, amidst large, lush foliage one sits sunny but sheltered on comfortable rattan chairs and with glass doors leading directly into the garden.

Each apartment has a balcony or a terrace, some both, with a view of the Atlantic or the garden.

The apartments of about 50m2 are simple but extremely well furnished and because of the large glass doors leading onto the balcony or the terrace, are bright and friendly.

The bedroom has two single beds, the sofa in the living-room can be made up into an extra bed. In the bathroom there is a bath, WC and fitted washbasin as well as a hair-dryer.
