Casa Hilarion on La Palma is a small delightfully built cottage of natural stone surrounded by a lushly flowering garden. While planning the building the use of natural materials and great attention to detail were considered but also a deliberate abrupt change in style. This has resulted in an unconventional holiday home and not just another reproduction Canary style country domicile. Due to the large glass doors the cottage is light and open to the garden and the terraces becoming an integral part of the living accommodation. The same care has been taken with the landscaping of the garden using natural stone in various shapes and colours for paths and paving.

From the paths and terraces around the cottage wonderful views can be had of the landscape of La Palma with its great varieties of vegetation as well as the amazing formation of its mountains.

At 450 m above sea level the cottage Casa Hilarion is situated in a favourable climatic zone with just a 10 min drive to the well kept beaches of Puerto Naos and Playa Nueva. A 15 min drive brings one to the small busy town of Los Llanos with its delightful plaza and excellent shopping facilities.

If you fancy a hike or a walk on La Palma you can use the new well sign-posted trails starting straight from the house. A short drive brings you to the trails of the Cumbre and the Caldera de Taburiente.

Casa Hilarion has been extended: Between Casa Hilarion and the neighboring house Casa Ana a colourful sun terrace and a communal pool heated by solar power invite you for a swim; if you want you can even swim against the current. The round whirlpool at just the right temperature promises a gentle massage. A small pond with a fountain babbles soothingly at the side.

In the luxuriant garden of the Casa Hilarion where plants grow and flower in typical La Palma fashion, stone paths and walls provide a formal frame work. Next to the endemic varieties there are exotic plants wildly spreading and spilling into the landscape´s own garden of succulents and cacti.

The furnishings of the Casa Hilarion are a lively mixture of traditional stylistic elements, natural materials and modern design. Great importance was attached to the use of high quality building materials and consequently organic products have been applied for all timber and walls. The typical Canary style timber roof is open to all rooms and they in turn are decorated in warm colours with an intensive blue, carefully placed, giving contrast. In this small but unusual cottage it appears that here all is part of a plan with nothing left to chance, everything carefully thought through and lovingly arranged, the flagged floors with their decorative stone, the custom made cupboards and doors with their unusual woodwork.

Above: Free standing kitchen units have ample working surface making it easy for more than one person to work together, thus favouring communal and communicative cooking.
Light floods through the large glass doors into the living room of the cottage with its integrated kitchen furnished with a dining table, seating four persons, and comfortable leather sofa with matching armchair. A wood burning stove spends warmth on winter evenings and details, such as the beautiful antique chest, give this room a personal touch.
